New U.S. Import Tariffs – What This Means for CMJ London Customers
If you’ve been following the news, you may have heard that the United States has recently changed its import rules. From August 29th, 2025, the U.S. removed its long-standing “de minimis” exemption, which previously allowed goods valued under $800 to enter duty-free.
What does this mean? In short, all goods entering the U.S. are now subject to import duties – even small parcels like jewellery.
What Has Changed?
Before: U.S. customers could order items under $800 without paying extra duties.
Now: Import duties apply to all orders, regardless of value.
For jewellery, this typically means a 10% duty on the product price, plus a small administration fee.
This change was introduced by the U.S. government to reduce the flow of low-cost goods from mass online retailers, but unfortunately it also affects independent makers and small businesses like ours.
How CMJ London Is Handling This
We want to make ordering from us as simple as possible, so we’ve worked with Royal Mail’s new Postal Delivery Duties Paid (PDDP) service.
Here’s what that means for our U.S. customers:
No hidden fees at delivery → All duties and taxes are prepaid by us when we ship your order.
Fast, reliable delivery → Your jewellery will continue to ship via Royal Mail Tracked or DHL Express.
Transparent pricing → You’ll see the full cost at checkout. What you pay is final – no surprise bills from customs.
Shipping to the USA
Standard tracked delivery remains just £9.95, with free shipping on orders over £59.99.
Delivery times are typically 5–10 business days.
Our Promise
At CMJ London, we pride ourselves on making the process simple for our customers. While these new tariffs are outside of our control, we’ve adapted quickly so that you can continue to shop with confidence.
Your order will always arrive beautifully presented in our CMJ London packaging – with no unexpected costs along the way.
✨ Thank you to our U.S. customers for supporting a small, independent jewellery brand through these changes. We’re proud to continue delivering handmade, customisable jewellery worldwide.
